Negombo Beach
Negombo lagoon is one of the best places to enjoy the beauty of the Negombo sunset. It is worth spending an evening seeing the beautifully coloured sky with evening sunlight. The beaches are not always crowded. Among the main tourist attractions, the beautiful churches are unique. The city is known as the “Little Rome” due to the amazingly built Catholic Churches. You can see traces of Portuguese and Dutch legacies if you roam around the city.
Besides enjoying the beach, you could also visit the local fish markets to see the traditional netting and many other activities related to the local fishing industry. Do not miss taking a boat ride in the Negombo Lagoon. You could also cruise down the Hamilton Canal, also known as The Dutch Canal. The Dutch Canal is a waterway that stretches for 14.5 kilometres between the town of Puttalam and the city of Colombo, and that also passes through the city of Negombo. One of the purposes the Dutch used the canal for, was to conduct barges that carried cinnamon to the seaports in Negombo.
