Arugam Bay
It is also renowned as an East Coast surfer’s paradise, for beginners and advanced. Surf spots such as Lighthouse, Whiskey Point, Main Point, Peanut Farm, Elephant Rock, Crocodile Rock are all around. Surf schools and surf camps are plenty. The busy East Season starts from June and lasts till the end of August. This is the period where you get most of the visitors to Arugambay. Typically, the Arugam Bay weather is hot and a little windy due to the coastal belt. That is why visitors look forward to surfing in Arugam Bay. Apart from surfing and enjoying the sun, there are many other activities that you can do around the area of Pottuvil, Arugambay and Panama.
Kumana National Park being the neighbour, you can easily enjoy the wildlife in a jeep safari. Also, climbing the Elephant Rock, visiting the Muhudu Maha Viharaya, and going on a Lagoon safari are the other activities you can enjoy. Being a foodie and enjoying all the different versions of native and Western food is also enjoyable. Some of this food is endemic to this coastal culture. So do not miss out! The other activities you can enjoy are visiting the Kudumbigala Monastery, visiting Okanda Kovil and getting a little fishing experience with the local fishermen. If you are very much in love with surfing, you must visit Arugam Bay between April and October. The best is considered as July, September, and October.
